Payouts: when money reaches your bank
See when card payments reach your bank, what comes off them, and how to open your Stripe account.
Updated
When guests pay by card, Stripe holds the money for a short time and then pays it into your bank. This is called a payout. You can see what’s on its way, and what has already arrived, on your Payments page.
Where to look
Go to Payments & billing › Guest payments, or open Payments. Once card payments are set up, the top of the page shows:
- Coming to your bank: the next payout and the day it arrives, or “Nothing on its way right now”
- Taken this month: card payments so far this month, before card fees
- Balances still to come: balances that will be taken automatically before guests arrive
Below that is the list of recent card payments. Each one says roughly how much reaches you, for example “about £97.30 to you”. Paid into your bank lists your last three payouts with the date each arrived.
When the money arrives
Stripe pays into your bank as often as you choose: weekly, on Mondays, to start. To change it, tap Open Stripe beside Stripe is connected and change your payout schedule there. Each payout covers the card payments that have cleared by then, usually those from a few days before, so it won’t match any one booking. Your very first payout can take a little longer while Stripe gets to know your account.
What comes off
- Stripe’s card fee: 1.5% + 20p on standard UK cards (more on premium and overseas cards), taken before it reaches you. Guests never pay it.
- PootlrHost’s £1 booking fee, on Pay As You Go, taken from the card payment that carries it. If you pass it on to guests, they’ve paid it on top, so the price of the stay still reaches you in full. The £1 on pay-on-arrival bookings goes on your card once a month instead, not on your payouts. See Service fees and the £1 booking fee.
- Refunds you send come out of your Stripe account. See Refunds.
Your own service fee, if you add one, isn’t taken off: it reaches you with the stay.
Your Stripe account
To change the bank account you’re paid into, see tax documents or update your ID, tap Open Stripe beside Stripe is connected. Stripe opens in a new tab; close it when you’re done.
Good to know
- Money from guests who pay on arrival never goes through Stripe, so it isn’t in your payouts.
- If the page says “Couldn’t reach Stripe just now”, the payout figures couldn’t load. Try again in a minute.
- Only the campsite’s owner can see the Payments page.
- If a refund leaves your Stripe balance below zero, for example because the money had already been paid out, Stripe takes it from your next card payments. If none come in, Stripe takes it from your bank account.
