Commission calculator: What does booking site commission cost you?
Put in your bookings for a year and what they’re worth on average. See what a booking site’s published rate comes to, and what the same bookings would cost taken direct.
£13.50 on each booking, at its published rate of 15% including VAT.
On Pay As You Go: the £1 booking fee plus Stripe’s card fee of £1.55, on each booking.
The booking site’s figure is its commission at the published rate, and nothing else. The PootlrHost figure includes Stripe’s card fee, taking each booking as one payment by a standard UK card.
How it’s worked out
- Each site’s published rate, checked on 23 October 2026. Our guide to what booking sites cost has the sources. Check your own contract: rates can depend on your site and agreement.
- Pitchup takes its commission as the guest’s deposit. If you take the balance by card, that costs you card fees too, which aren’t counted here.
- Booking.com and Canopy & Stars aren’t included, because they don’t publish a rate.
- A booking site brings guests who might never have found you. The commission worth winning back is on guests who’d have booked with you anyway, like your regulars.
What PootlrHost charges
- Pay As You Go: £1 for each booking a guest makes online, or for each pitch in a group booking. Bookings you add yourself, and bookings you import, are free.
- Pro: £25 a month for one campsite, with no booking fee. The calculator shows whichever plan costs less.
- Stripe’s card fee is 1.5% + 20p on standard UK cards, and more on premium and overseas cards. It comes out of each payment, so a deposit and a balance paid separately are charged as two payments.
- Prices shown are the full price — we’re not VAT-registered, so there’s no VAT to add. Everything on our pricing page.

15% of each booking, including VAT. VAT-registered UK sites can reclaim the VAT, so their cost is 12.5%. Pitchup takes it as the guest’s deposit when they book, and you collect the rest yourself.
Of the published rates, Campsites.co.uk is lowest at 10% plus VAT. Pitchup takes 15% including VAT, Hipcamp 12.5% plus VAT plus a card fee of 1.4% plus 20p, and Airbnb’s single fee is 15.5% for most hosts. Booking.com and Canopy & Stars don’t publish a rate.

Not necessarily. They bring guests who would never have found you, and a pitch they fill is worth more than an empty one. The commission worth winning back is on guests who would have booked with you anyway, such as your regulars.
